Christina Cano-Young, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 6 years of experience working with adults and adolescents recovering from complex trauma and substance use disorders. I have been working with elementary school aged children for 2 years. I work with clients in a collaborative and inclusive way to help them identify their unique strengths and gifts to achieve their personal vision of success.

I am a mind/body therapist that primarily utilizes internal family systems therapy, brain spotting, polyvagal therapy and EMDR. I have found internal family systems paired with brain spotting and EMDR can be very effective in helping to process traumatic events, the traits and symptoms of trauma, and provide validation and healing for the parts of us that need it most, allowing us to be more present and content in our daily lives. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

I am passionate and dedicated to helping children navigate their internal world, make sense of their feelings and how they impact the way they view and interact with the world around them.
Hobbies and Interests
When I'm not working I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, running and traveling.
My favorite place to visit is any Disney park!
Education
2004 - 2007
Rogue Community College
Medford, Oregon
During my time at RCC, I majored in Human Services with an emphasis in the treatment of Substance Use Disorders, and completed the education and practicum experience necessary to obtain my CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) license in Oregon. I then transferred to SOU to pursue a psychology degree.

My practicum experience provided me the opportunity to work with clients enrolled in the Josephine County Drug Court program where I provided compassionate and inclusive care to adults seeking recovery from addiction.
2007 - 2009
BS Psychology
Southern Oregon University
Ashland, Oregon
I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from SOU in 2009. My practicum experience allowed me the opportunity to work with at risk youth, including unhoused and unaccompanied minors, utilizing trauma informed, compassionate, inclusive, harm reduction practices.

For my capstone project, I created a free retail clothing store for children and adolescents, where they could confidently shop with dignity for relevant, youthful, clean clothing and shoes.

It was during this time that I realized my passion for working with children and adolescents.
2018 - 2020
Masters of Social Work
Simmons University
Boston, Massachusetts
I graduated with my Masters of Social Work in May 2020 and obtained my LCSW in Oregon in December 2022 and my LCSW in Hawaii in April 2023.

During my first year of social work internship, I worked at an adolescent residential treatment facility where I provided mental health support and facilitated therapeutic groups for adolescents seeking recovery from substance use disorder.

My second year social work internship led me to Women's Residential and Women's Outpatient treatment centers for substance use, where I provided individual and family mental health support and treatment to women seeking recovery from substance use disorder.

After graduation I was hired at an integrated health care clinic, where I currently split my time remotely between the main health clinic, where I provide specialty mental health services to adults and adolescents seeking treatment for anxiety, depression, PTSD and symptoms and traits related to complex trauma; and a tribal reservation, where I provide mental health therapy to clients involved in medicated assisted therapy (MAT) for opioid and alcohol dependence, and provide mental health support and therapy to their families.
My family relocated to Kauai in February of 2021 due to my husbands employment. I am looking forward to serving the children in our community.
